Tiger, Tiger...  Is there more to say?

A few days after the NY Times wrote about new helmets that could take a hit from 100 mph fastballs, David Wright of the Mets got plunked on the bean and knocked out.  In the article several players said they would not wear the helmets because of the way they looked.  Wright, at least, had the good sense to say he would wear 'em so he's not stupid even if these other guys are. Wright said “I’m not worried about style or looking good out there. I’m worried about keeping my melon protected.”

Gates said it was racism, Galloway said it was out of control, Obama said it was stupid.

I wonder if this was more about elitism than racism.  Fancy pants Harvard professor is questioned by blue collar cop.  Maybe elite guy wasn't used to be spoken to this way by the "lower class" worker bee and refused to be deferrential and just hand over his driver's license.  "How dare you speak to me, Harvard professor and clearly better than you, you low-life person!"
